Physical Education

Newington Primary School aims to provide students with the opportunity to experience a wide range of physical activities in a supportive and development based environment. Students are encouraged to try new skills and games while also looking to improve physical fitness levels.

We provide a safe and caring environment for all students to achieve their best, encourage students to work as a team, foster positive sporting experiences that will lead to lifelong physical activity and to teach students the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

The Physical Education program focuses on developing fundamental motor skills that enable students to participate successfully in a variety of sports. Newington’s students are offered the opportunity to experience a range of different sports and skill development sessions in weekly 1 hour Physical Education classes.

We have a full size basketball court, a soccer pitch and an indoor space which we use during bad weather. Our goal is to support all students in developing a wide range of physical skills, as well as a healthy attitude toward physical activities and assist them to make good choices as they continue to grow.

Students are given the opportunity to participate in many extra sporting activities throughout the year such as:

  • F-2 Athletics Carnival
  • 3-6 Athletics Carnival
  • Whole school cross country

Students in Year 3 to 6 have the opportunity to participate in the District Sporting Carnivals of swimming, athletics and cross country.

  • Inter-school athletics (years 3-6)
  • Inter-school cross country (years 3-6)
  • Inter-school swimming carnival (years 3-6)

  • Foundation students participate in the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) on a regular bases.
  • Students are offered the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities such as Pat Darroch Primary School Netball Season and Auskick.
  • Grades 1, 3 and 5 participate in a swimming program each year which includes water safety. The program runs every day for a week and allows students to build a strong foundation of swimming skills.
  • We partner up with Auskick and have an after school program which runs during term.
